French Macarons

Black Rock Shooter introduced French Macarons too me.
I can't wait till the day I can taste one.

What you need:
Worsted weight acrylic yarn
light a dark of a similar color
Size F (3.75 mm) hook
Yarn needle
Polyester fiber Fill
Clip to keep place
Scissors

These use very little yarn, they are great for using up those mini balls in your stash.

 Macaron:
Work in continuous rounds
  • Chain 2 in main color
  • Round 1: work 6 sc in first chain
  • Round 2: work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
  • Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 st
  • Round 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 24 st
  • Round 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 30 st
  • Round 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 36 st
  • Round 7: sc in each sc - 36 st
  • Round 8-9: switch to accent color, sc in each sc - 36 st
(This will not look even. Don't worry; it will be hidden by the surface crochet)
  • Round 10: switch back to main color, sc in each sc -36 st
  • Round 11: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 30 st
  • Round 12:  *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 24 st
  • Round 13: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 18 st
  • Round 14: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 1 sts, rep from * around - 12 st
  • Stuff firmly
  • Round 15: sc2tog around -6 st
  • Sew up end and weave in end
Finishing Touches:

To create the little ridge around the "top" and "bottom" I surface crocheted.

I did the bottom band first. Hold the cookie right side up and work around. I used the bottom stitch of the center color. The surface crochet should be lined up flush with the center with the recess facing downward.
For the top I hold the cookie upside down. I used the stitch above the center color. This row should be a mirror image to the bottom, the crochet should be flush with the center and the recess facing upwards. Weave in ends.

It may take several tries to get this correct.
But once you do, you will have a dozen or more in no time.
